There was a whole lot of shaking going on this morning! I saw the headlines this morning of major 7.9 earthquake near Kodiak, Alaska followed be news of the volcanic eruption at the Japanese ski resort. Anyone paying attention would have to question, is this activity normal or is it increasing? Recently, the USGS put out a statement to the effect that earthquake activity has not been increasing, but has remained the same over the past centuries. If anyone really believed that, they may question whether we really are in the last days based on the predictions Jesus made about the events preceding his coming. He said there would be “earthquakes, in divers places” (Matt. 24:7). While this had no doubt already come to pass whether the activity is increasing or not, it is how you read the next verse that is the deciding factor. After Jesus listed the events marking the end times, he said, “All these are the beginning of sorrows” (Matt. 24:8). I have heard a number of scholars on the subject explain that the “sorrows” here would be best understood as labor pains as a baby is about to be born. The pains intensify and the frequency increases right up until the birth. So the real question is not if there are earthquakes all over the earth, but is the seismic activity increasing?
In the movie, Convergence, put out by Prophecy News Watch, the authors called the USGS report into question. They downloaded the actual earthquake data for the last century and compiled for themselves. Their team of analyst beg to differ with the USGS and showed the activity was in fact increasing. Maybe USGS thought they would make us all feel better, or maybe they misread their own data.
Fox News put out this convincing update and explanation of the Ring of Fire activity today: Video link
Nonetheless, I think it is safe to say that the Ring of Fire is certainly increasing in activity. According to the USGS site, there were 9 significant earthquakes in the last 30 days, including today’s 7.9. I would also add, that it would be wise to keep looking up, “for our redemption draweth nigh” (Luke 21:28).
Also, Prophezine.com had this to say about not only the increase of activity in the Ring of Fire but around the globe. Read article
