Threats of War Increase in Middle East, as well as Pressure for a Two-State Solution
In recent headlines dealing with Syria-Israeli relations, Syria was accused of giving Hizbullah terrorist improved scud missles. A Washington think tank eveidently sees this weapon transfer as a step in the direction of another Syria-Israeli war. The disturbing connection to all this is that pressure will most likely be applied to the Obama administration to solve this middle-east war (if it breaks out) with a two-state solution. The president of Palestine, Abbas, is calling for the Obama administration "to impose a solution to the Middle-East conflict that would give his people an independent state."
In an earlier statement, Senator Feinstein said that the conflict "would only subside with a peace deal between Israel and the Palestinians." According to Feinstein, the only thing that will solve the conflict is a "two-state solution." I don't think she would be in favor of giving up southern California and splitting San Francisco in half for one our enemies' capital city to solve a conflict do you? Please read my last Israeli update about the U.S. pushing for Jerusalem to be split for a Palestinian capital and the growing rift between U.S. and Israel. Please take a look at the headlines below:
Abbas to Obama: Impose Mideast peace solution April 24, 2010 Haaretz reports: “Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas urged the Obama administration on Saturday to impose a solution to the Middle East conflict that would give his people an independent state. ‘Mr. President [Barack Obama] and members of the American administration, since you believe in this [an independent Palestinian state], it is your duty to take steps toward a solution and to impose this solution,’ Abbas said in a speech. Washington Think Tank Predicts New Mideast War April 23, 2010 Israel National News reports: “A U.S.-based think tank has issued a report saying that a new Middle East war may be looming on the horizon. If hostilities do in fact break out, writes David Schenker of The Washington Institute, ‘fighting could take on a regional dimension not seen since 1973.’ The prediction comes in response to reports that Syria has supplied the Lebanon-based Hizbullah terrorist organization with advanced Russian-made 9K38 Igla-S anti-aircraft missiles. Transfer of the shoulder-fired ordnance to the terrorist group has previously been marked by Israeli officials as a ‘red line’ issue. 'Hizbullah arms real danger to Israel' April 21, 2010 The Jerusalem Post reports: “Following last week's uncertainty surrounding a reported Syrian Scud missile delivery to Hizbullah, a senior US senator said Tuesday that the guerrilla group most likely obtained the weapons and that its missiles posed a real danger to Israel. ‘I believe there is likelihood that there are Scuds that Hizbullah has in Lebanon. A high likelihood,’ Senate Intelligence Committee chair Dianne Feinstein, a Democrat from California, told AFP.’The rockets and missiles in Lebanon are substantially increased and better technologically than they were and this is a real point of danger for Israel.’ Feinstein stressed that the tensions in the North would only subside with a peace deal between Israel and the Palestinians. ‘There's only one thing that's going to solve it, and that's a two-state solution,’ she said.
